Apprenticeship Programs

Chabot-Las Positas Community College District serves as a local educational agency (LEA) for apprenticeship programs.  We can provide the following benefits to their apprentices and their programs:

  • College Credit and Career Growth – By partnering with us, your apprentices can earn college credit for your apprenticeship courses.  For-credit courses also provide a starting point for future college attendance that can expand their future employment opportunities in the trade.
  • Funding for Training – When an apprentice attends your apprenticeship class, they generate Related and Supplemental Instruction (RSI) funding that the Program Sponsor can reinvest into their training program.

Western Burglar and Fire Alarm Association -
Fire/Life Safety Apprenticeship Program

The Western Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (WBFAA) apprenticeship program was created in response to AB 931, which requires certification for their industry. The Fire/Life Safety apprenticeship program provides classroom and on-the job training to prepare apprentices to work as low voltage electricians. The electricians install and maintain fire, security and health (hospital) alarm systems.

Currently, the program requires a three year, full-time commitment that combines weekly classroom instruction with on-the-job training.

As the first California statewide apprenticeship program to be offered, WBFAA provides multiple classroom sites in Northern, Central and Southern California with additional sites to be added as demand increases. Additionally, an online program was developed to enable apprentices to study the theory portion of classes via distance education and attend quarterly labs for the hands-on component of the program. This mode of delivery will be especially useful to apprentices living outside of urban areas with less access to the classrooms.
